Nike has created its version of imaginary; super cool, self-lacing shoes worn by McFly in “Back to the Future 2”. 1,500 pairs of these special-edition shoes are being auctioned on eBay. It has been announced that the profit will be donated to Michael J. Fox Foundation.
Michael J. Fox, who played Marty McFly in the franchise, arrived on the “Late Show with David Letterman” to exhibit the cool Nike Kicks and to express a few words. He said
“This brings together three populations of people with major joneses. The sneaker heads, the ‘Back to the Future’ guys, who believe me, are out of their minds — in a good way! Thank God for them. And also people in the Parkinson’s community who have an interest in research.”
In a press release the Nike called the “Nike Mag” an “exact match” to the shoes in the movie.
“Down to the contours of the upper, the glowing LED panel and the electroluminescent NIKE in the strap.”
These shoes don’t appear to have laces, but apart from that detail, they appear to be pretty close to the original pair.
The press release says,
“The 2011 NIKE MAG illuminates with the pinch of the ‘ear’ of the high top, glowing for five hours per charge.”
As PC World says, “at least they look cool.”
The site offers 150 pairs of shoes a day through Sept.18.
The first pair was auctioned for $37,500. The winning bidder is Tinie Tempah, a 22-year-old British rapper.
